After a bathroom renovation was completed at a home in the 67 Avenue area of Surrey, the homeowner began experiencing a serious drainage problem. The Drainage Problem

Inspecting the Main Drain

We opened the cleanout to gain access to the main drainage line and used our drain camera to investigate what was happening farther downstream.
The camera inspection helped us determine that the main drainage problem was located approximately 63 feet down the line.
How We Cleared the Main Sewer Blockage
Once the approximate blockage location was identified, we switched from diagnosis to mechanical drain cleaning.
Located the Main Cleanout
We located and opened the home’s 4-inch main drain cleanout to access the drainage line.
Camera Inspected the Line
We sent the drain camera through the main line and identified the problem area at approximately 63 feet.
Sent the Main Drain Auger Down the Line
Our main drain-cleaning machine was sent through the 4-inch line to work on the obstruction.
Worked the Blockage for Approximately Two Hours
This was not an immediate clearing. We continued working the main line for roughly two hours until drainage was restored.
Reinspected the Drain
After clearing the obstruction, further inspection revealed important information about why this area of the sewer line could remain problematic.
What We Found Inside the Sewer Line
Clearing the blockage solved the immediate backup, but the inspection also revealed the underlying conditions around the problem area.
At approximately 63 feet down the main line, we observed a belly in the pipe.
We also found construction-related material/debris inside the drainage line.
These findings were important because a belly creates a low section where water and material may collect instead of maintaining normal drainage along the pipe’s intended slope.

After the main blockage was cleared, the camera inspection showed a low area in the drainage line at approximately 63 feet. This real footage from the Surrey job documents the condition we observed inside the pipe.
The Result
After approximately two hours of working the main drain with our drain-cleaning equipment, the obstruction was cleared and drainage was restored.

Why Camera Inspection Mattered on This Job
If we had only cleared the blockage and left, the homeowner would know that the drain was flowing again — but would have much less information about the condition farther down the line.
Camera inspection allowed us to identify the approximate location of the problem and, after cleaning, document the pipe belly and construction-related material.
This is particularly valuable when a main sewer blockage occurs after renovation or construction work, or when the same drainage problem continues to return.
What Is a Belly in a Sewer Line?
A sewer-line belly is a low or sagging section of drainage piping. Drainage piping normally relies on proper slope to move wastewater and solids through the system.
When a section of pipe dips lower than intended, water can remain in that area. Depending on the severity and condition of the line, solids or debris may also collect in the low section and contribute to recurring drainage problems.
Mechanical drain cleaning can clear an obstruction, but it does not physically correct a structural belly in the piping. If recurring problems continue, further evaluation and repair options may need to be considered.
